Dal Tadka


Ingredients -


  • Tur dal - 1 cup
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 tsp
  • Green chilies - 2 
  • Cumin seeds - 1/3 tsp
  • Black pepper (whole) - 6-7
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Tomatoes -2 (chopped)
  • Salt - to taste
  • Lemon juice - 2 tsp
  • Water - 2 glasses
  • Coriander leaves - few


For Tempering:

  • Oil - 2 tsp
  • Onion - 1 (chopped)
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Dried red chilies - 2-3
  • Cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Garlic - 1/2 pod (chopped)



Procedure -


  • In a pressure cooker, put dal, ginger garlic paste, green chilies, tomatoes, cumin seeds, pepper, turmeric powder and water 
  • Cook until the dal tenders completely (8-10 whistles). 
  • Open the lid and now blend the Dal thoroughly with a blender. 
  • Add salt, lemon juice and coriander leaves 
  • Let it simmer on low flame for about 10 mins. 
  • Add water if needed.



For Tempering :

  • Heat oil, add onions and garlic
  • When pink add curry leaves, cumin seeds and red chili and quickly add to dal 
  • Cover it to set the flavors in the Dal.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with zeera rice.
